According to the statement, troops of Sector 2 deployed at a checkpoint in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, intercepted a vehicle heading towards Shinkafi Local Government Area on June 5, 2026.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a magazine and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition concealed inside a sack filled with millet.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Mustapha Abubakar, was arrested and is believed to be involved in the illegal supply of arms and ammunition to terrorist groups operating in the North-West.
Danja said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was transporting the weapons to criminal collaborators in the area. He added that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the network.
In a separate operation on June 3, 2026, troops of Sector 1 successfully foiled a cattle rustling operation in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The operation followed a distress call from a herder who reported that armed criminals had stolen his livestock.
Acting on the information, troops swiftly deployed along the suspected escape routes of the rustlers and intercepted them while they attempted to move the stolen cattle out of the area.
The resulting exchange of gunfire forced the criminals to abandon the animals and flee into nearby bushes.
A total of 53 cattle were recovered during the operation and subsequently returned to their rightful owner.
The military said the operations demonstrate its continued commitment to dismantling terrorist and criminal networks, disrupting illegal arms supply chains and protecting communities across the North-West.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their professionalism and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to sustain ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
