Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles wrapped up their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign with a 2-0 victory over Congo on Tuesday.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the game, which held little bearing on qualification as both sides were already out of the tournament, saw a goalless first half despite chances on both ends.

Anas Yusuf, top scorer in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, netting Nigeria’s first goal of the tournament.
Congo’s troubles deepened in the closing moments of the match when Charles Konde received a red card in the 90th minute for a dangerous challenge.
Sikiru Alimi sealed the win for Nigeria in added time, making it 2-0.

Despite the win, Nigeria exited the tournament at the group stage, finishing third in Group D with three points after earlier losses to Senegal and Sudan. Eric Chelle’s team had come into the final group game with no chance of progression.
Congo also crashed out following the defeat, failing to advance from the group.
Elsewhere in Group D, Senegal and Sudan played out a goalless draw, with both sides progressing to the knockout round.
