The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has resigned from his position.
His resignation was contained in a letter he personally signed, dated August 24, 2025, and made available to journalists. The letter, titled “Resignation As The Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly,” confirmed that the decision takes effect immediately.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Dajoh stated that his resignation was in good faith and in the interest of the state. He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the opportunity to serve as Speaker, pledging to continue his work as the representative of Gboko West State Constituency.
“I write to resign my position as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, effective today, August 24, 2025. This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state. I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals. I pledge to remain committed to my duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West State Constituency,” the letter partly read.
The development comes just two days after Governor Hyacinth Alia publicly denied allegations of involvement in a purported plot to impeach the Speaker.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia dismissed the speculations, stressing that he had no knowledge of or participation in any impeachment move against Dajoh.
“The attention of Government House, Makurdi has been drawn to speculations on alleged attempts to impeach the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh. Governor Hyacinth Alia is not aware of, and has no involvement whatsoever in, any purported attempt to remove the Speaker. He holds the legislature in the highest esteem and maintains unwavering respect for the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers,” the statement read.

The statement further added that the governor has always responded to communications and resolutions from the House of Assembly and remains committed to a harmonious working relationship with the legislature.
