A well-known Abia State entertainer, Nwandinma Dickson, popularly called “Nwayi Garri,” slumped and died on Monday while performing at an August meeting in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the event, which was reportedly organised by the wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, drew several guests and community members.
Nwandinma, aged 65 and a native of Oza Umuebukwu in Nneji Autonomous Community, Ugwunagbo LGA, was scheduled to feature in a cultural dance and drama presentation. Witnesses said she was dressed in her performance costume, moving around canopies, exchanging greetings, and entertaining the audience with her characteristic comic steps as the crowd awaited the governor’s wife.
Tragedy struck when she suddenly stooped and slumped in front of the cheering audience. At first, many spectators mistook the incident for part of her performance and continued clapping until they realised she was unresponsive.
Eyewitnesses recounted that she appeared to stand still for a while, before collapsing. Some guests later observed she was foaming from the mouth. The Mayor of Ugwunagbo LGA quickly intervened and rushed her to a nearby hospital in his vehicle, but she was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Family members later confirmed the incident, disclosing that the late entertainer had initially shown reluctance to attend the meeting but eventually chose to honour her performance commitment.
Her death has left the community in shock, especially as she was a popular figure known for her unique comic style and cultural displays at public functions.
