Eko Hot Blog reports that according to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, this development was part of the agreements reached between President Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during Tinubu’s state visit.

Brazil’s President Lula da Silva, speaking at a joint conference with Tinubu, said, “Increasing direct connections between Nigeria and Brazil is a crucial step towards strengthening ties between our nations. We have approved the launch of a direct flight, to be operated by Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, between Lagos and São Paulo.”
Both leaders witnessed the signing of multiple agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasília after their bilateral meeting. Among these was the Bilateral Air Services Agreement, signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filhos, aimed at boosting trade and people-to-people relations.

Additionally, an agreement on Diplomatic Training Cooperation was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, and her Brazilian counterpart, Ambassador Mauro Vieira.
Further bilateral agreements were signed to promote collaboration in biotechnology, bioeconomy, ocean science, innovation ecosystems, energy, space exploration, digital transformation, and raw materials research. This agreement was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, and Brazil’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Luciana Santos.
In addition, the Managing Director of Nigeria’s Bank of Agriculture, Ayo Sotinrin, and Brazil’s Minister for the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Aluísio Mercadante, signed an MOU to enhance cooperation in trade and investment promotion, focusing on expanding agricultural financing, investment, and joint projects.
