In a statement issued by the State House, President Tinubu congratulated the leadership and members of ECI as the organisation marks its 25th anniversary this September.
Founded during the turbulence of the 1990s, ECI emerged as a rallying point for Lagos indigenes in the diaspora, focused on unity, civic engagement, and community development.
Since then, it has grown into a global network with 25 active chapters across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Europe.
He lauded the group’s sustained efforts in promoting Lagos’s rich cultural heritage while actively engaging in philanthropic programs, including medical outreach, scholarships for underprivileged students, entrepreneurship support, and skill acquisition initiatives.
President Tinubu emphasized that ECI’s success over the past 25 years is not just a milestone for the organisation, but a symbol of the enduring power of community, even when built far from home.

He encouraged ECI’s members to reflect on their achievements and prepare for even greater contributions to society in the years ahead.
“Your story is a testament to resilience, purpose, and the unyielding spirit of Lagosians,” the President added.
The message concluded with President Tinubu expressing gratitude for the organisation’s consistent support, and his hopes for its continued growth and impact on future generations.
The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
