Politicians in Nigeria lack consistency and trust, Jonathan lamented.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described Nigerian politics as a system deeply riddled with betrayal, recalling his personal experiences during the 2015 general elections.
Jonathan made the remarks on Thursday in Benin, Edo State, at the 70th birthday celebration of his former Chief of Staff, Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the former president praised Oghiadomhe as one of the few friends who remained loyal to him throughout his political journey. He stressed that Oghiadomhe stood out in a political landscape where most actors are unreliable.
“Oghiadomhe is one of the few friends I have who can give out their neck for me. Politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals. I witnessed a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election,” Jonathan said.
He lamented that many politicians in the country are inconsistent and untrustworthy. “You’ll find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning, afternoon, and evening. They will tell you something this minute and change it the next hour. But I am pleased to associate with Oghiadomhe. He is one person who will take a bullet on my behalf. For me, he is somebody whose words you can take to the bank. Most politicians, you cannot take their words to the bank,” Jonathan added.
Oghiadomhe, who served as Jonathan’s Chief of Staff from 2010 to 2014, was celebrated by political associates, friends, and family members.
Dignitaries at the birthday event included Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Governors Lucky Igbinedion, Oserheimen Osunbor, and Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Chief Tom Ikimi, and Prof. Izia Ize-Iyamu, Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), among others.

The event reflected on Oghiadomhe’s contributions to Nigerian politics and his reputation as a dependable ally.
