The Lagos State Government has officially launched a major needs assessment project aimed at generating reliable data to improve the quality of basic education and inform policy reforms.
The initiative targets 1,238 public primary schools, vocational centers, and local government education authorities across the state. This project represents a bold step towards evidence-driven planning that will enhance resource allocation for a better learning environment, Eko Hot Blog reports.

This ambitious undertaking will span six weeks, with over 200 assessors deployed to conduct surveys and school visits. The team, working in groups, will assess a total of 1,284 educational facilities, including those in remote riverine and upland areas.

The data collected will undergo a rigorous verification process before officials submit a final report to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prompt action.
According to Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Education Board (LASUBEB), the project will provide valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of Lagos schools.
Mr. Oluwasegun Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Project Implementation, explained that the goal is to create a long-term development plan that any future government can use to make informed decisions on manpower, infrastructure, and school expansion.
