Rabi Laxmi Chitrakar, the wife of Nepal’s former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, has died after their family home in Kathmandu was set ablaze by protesters.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the tragic incident happened on Tuesday in the Dallu area of the capital, where angry demonstrators allegedly locked Chitrakar inside the house before setting it on fire.

She was rushed to the Kirtipur Burn Hospital in a critical state but later died from the severe injuries she sustained.
Her death comes amid widespread youth-led protests that have rocked the country for two straight days, despite the government’s recent decision to lift a ban on social media that had sparked public outrage.
The unrest has now claimed at least 22 lives, with over 300 people injured. Protesters are calling for the resignation of several top government officials over claims of corruption, nepotism, and poor economic leadership.

Amnesty International has raised alarm, accusing Nepalese security forces of using live bullets on unarmed demonstrators.
Videos shared online captured scenes of chaos, including petrol bombs being thrown at the homes of top political leaders such as K.P. Sharma Oli, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Government properties, including the presidential residence at Sheetal Niwas and Singh Durbar Nepal’s central administrative hub were also attacked.
In a letter addressed to the president, 73-year-old former Prime Minister Oli announced his resignation on Tuesday, stating that his decision was “necessary to pave the way for a peaceful political solution.”
Several cabinet members, including ministers of water supply, agriculture, and home affairs, have also resigned in protest against how the government has handled the crisis.
