Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has described the decision to let Joe Biden seek a second term in office as a “reckless” one, saying the risks were too high and the choice should not have been left solely to personal ambition.
Eko Hot Blog reports that this revelation comes from a newly released excerpt of her forthcoming memoir, 107 Days, which covers her brief but historic run for the presidency after Biden stepped down mid-campaign in July 2024.

Harris, who eventually lost to former President Donald Trump in the 2024 elections, acknowledged Biden’s struggles with age, admitting that the then 81-year-old often showed signs of fatigue and made noticeable mistakes.

“We kept repeating, ‘It’s Joe and Jill’s decision’ like it was gospel. Looking back, I wonder was that really wisdom, or were we just being reckless?” She said.
The memoir also offers a glimpse into her time as vice president, where Harris expressed frustration with the lack of support from Biden’s close advisers.
According to her, she was often undermined by the president’s inner circle who, she believes, didn’t want her to become too prominent.
“When negative or misleading stories came out about me, the president’s top aides rarely stepped in to set the record straight. In fact, sometimes it felt like they wanted to dim my light,” she added.
She further stated that she was left to carry the weight of the administration’s unpopular immigration policies a burden that later became a major campaign weapon for Trump.
Despite acknowledging Biden’s weaknesses, Harris praised his character, writing, “Even on his worst days, Joe had more depth, better judgment, and more heart than Trump ever showed on his best.”
Her campaign, which lasted just over three months the shortest in modern U.S. political history ended in defeat to Trump, setting the stage for the release of 107 Days.
