Young spellers in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government showcased brilliance and confidence on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, as the council, in partnership with the Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance, hosted the 2025 Spelling Bee Competition Preliminaries.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the contest brought together pupils and students from public primary and secondary schools across the council area, providing a platform to test their mastery of the English language and celebrate academic excellence.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LG, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, was the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji.
He charged participants to approach the contest with courage and resilience.
“This competition is not only about letters and spelling but a celebration of knowledge, discipline, and confidence,” he said. “Success is not just about winning but about the lessons learned along the way.”

At the end of the preliminaries, winners emerged across three categories:
Primary School Category
- Oddi Esther – RCM Primary School, Ayeteju
- Okeeguale Glory – Local Government Primary School, Akodo
- Theodore Miracle – Community Primary School, Lakowe
Junior Secondary School Category
- Oladokun Esther – Elemoro Junior High School
- Obayemi Elijah – Junior Grammar School, Magbon Alade
- Ojiaku Ugbana – Elemoro Junior High School
Senior Secondary School Category
- Ashikordi Eunice – Senior Grammar School, Magbon-Alade
- Sanusi Nofisat – Community Secondary School, Akodo
- Waheed Olamilekan – Community Grammar School, Magbon-Alade
A teacher from Elemoro Junior High School commended the initiative. “This competition not only tests spelling ability but also inspires our students to aim higher and believe in themselves,” she noted.

Winners from the preliminaries will now proceed to represent Ibeju-Lekki at the next stage of the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition.
The event was attended by the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Olayinka, Deputy Leader, Hon. Musbau Shuaib Olorunju, Former Supervisor for Education, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, Council Manager, Mr. Oladipupo Otinwa (represented by the Human Resource Director, Mr. Shotubo Adeyemi), HOD Education, Mrs. Ganiat Belo, HOD Environment, Mrs. Mary Akinola, and NUT representative, Comrade Kadiri Olajide, among other dignitaries.
