The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to using the E1 Lagos GP Series One race as a platform to build a climate change ecosystem that will drive innovation, entertainment, technology and economic growth.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known at the E1 Lagos GP, held alongside the African Blue Economy Summit 1 Lagos 2025, themed “Harnessing Africa’s Blue Natural Capital for Sustainable Growth” at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island.
Sanwo Olu described the event as more than a race, stressing that Lagos is positioning itself at the forefront of Africa’s blue economy. According to him, the initiative serves as an economic springboard to transform ocean and freshwater resources into sustainable growth engines.
“This is about more than competition. Lagos is creating an ecosystem that is bold, resilient and capable of shaping leaders in technology, entertainment and economic innovation,” the governor said.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized the state’s dedication to tapping the potential of waterways. He noted that the project offers a unique platform for investment, job creation and global competitiveness through sustainable maritime development.
Former football star and President of the Didier Drogba Foundation, Didier Drogba, hailed the initiative as symbolic, pointing out that hosting the first African edition of the E1 race demonstrates how sport, innovation and technology can foster transformation.
Co Founder and Chairman of the E1 Series, Alejandro Agag, praised the efficiency of the Lagos team, urging the government to sustain its support over the next five years. He said the Lagos GP has the potential to serve as a model for Africa and beyond.
The summit also featured top stakeholders, including the Director General of the National Council on Climate Change, Dr. Omotenioye Majekodunmi.
