The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with a violent robbery and attempted assassination of a traditional ruler in the Igoba community, Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspects, said to be part of a gang of armed hoodlums, reportedly invaded the community around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, terrorizing residents and dispossessing them of valuables at gunpoint. Several people were injured during the attack.

The traditional ruler of Igoba, Oba Adinlewa John, narrowly escaped death when the assailants stormed his palace.
In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, had immediately deployed tactical teams to the area after receiving a distress call.

“On the said day, a group of hoodlums, armed with firearms, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons, invaded Igoba Community with the intent to wreak havoc,” Ayanlade stated.
“One Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo was viciously attacked and dispossessed of her belongings. The assailants later advanced to the palace of His Royal Highness, Oba Adinlewa John, where they attempted to assassinate the monarch. Fortunately, the royal father narrowly escaped the life-threatening assault.”
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and will be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
Items recovered from the suspects include two locally fabricated pistols, a single-barrel gun, live ammunition, assorted charms, knives, machetes, and other dangerous weapons.
