Hundreds of young Nigerians under the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) staged a protest on Thursday at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) headquarters in Abuja over the Commission’s recent decision to deregister the council.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the demonstration, led by NYCN President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, marked the beginning of a 30-day nationwide protest to demand the reversal of the deregistration and the removal of CAC Registrar General, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji (SAN).

The protesters accused Magaji of acting despite a pending legal case on the issue at the Court of Appeal. The Federal Ministry of Youth had earlier announced that the CAC withdrew NYCN’s certificate of registration and appointed a caretaker committee to oversee its activities.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Registrar General Must Go” and “Respect Court Orders,” the protesters blocked roads leading to the CAC office while chanting solidarity songs. Addressing journalists, Sukubo said the action of the CAC disrespected ongoing judicial proceedings.
He said the deregistration was unlawful because the matter had been decided by the Federal High Court and was still pending appeal. Sukubo vowed that the peaceful protests would continue nationwide until the NYCN was reinstated.

NYCN National Secretary, Comrade Gara Nongha, described the deregistration as an attack on Nigerian youth and called for an immediate resolution. Former NYCN Secretary General, Barrister Abubakar Suleiman, urged authorities to respect due process, stressing that the case remained before the courts.
Responding to the protest, Acting Registrar General and Director of Customer Service at CAC, Julius Hanga, said the deregistration was only temporary. He explained that the Commission would reinstate NYCN once all legal and administrative issues were resolved to ensure full compliance with regulatory procedures.
