The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, on Friday, October 10th, officially flagged off the distribution of interactive smart boards to basic education schools across Nigeria, at Queen’s College, Yaba, Lagos State.

Dr. Alausa officially launched the initiative, alongside distinguished guests and stakeholders in the education sector, as part of the federal government’s initiative to enhance teaching and learning through digital technology.
Ekohotblog reports that the Minister described the initiative as a way of transforming the country’s educational system to meet the demands of the digital economy and build a globally competitive society.

“We are transforming Nigeria education system to meet the demands of digital economy and build a global competitive knowledge based society.” He stated.
He further emphasized the necessity for education to embrace innovation and national competitiveness, which involves the embedment of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital literacy across the school curriculum.
“Education must evolve with innovation and competitiveness, and that is why we are embedding artificial intelligence and digital literacy across the curriculum,” Dr. Alausa concluded.

Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) procured and distributed over 800 interactive smart boards nationwide.
The smart boards are equipped with multi-touch capability, high-definition display, seamless connectivity, and are specifically designed to promote interactive and inclusive classrooms across the country.
