Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah officially switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, announcing the move at a press conference in Enugu.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor asserted that he committed himself to advancing Enugu’s interests, believing the APC platform offers greater opportunities for national collaboration and state growth.

Mbah clarified that he desired a visionary partnership that would bring transformative change to both Enugu and the nation, stating his decision was necessary to better serve his constituents.
Mbah acknowledged the significance of the move, declaring, “Today, after a long period of reflection, we have decided to leave the PDP and join the APC… I have found in His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a partner in purpose, a man with the courage to look beyond today and make the tough choices that secure lasting prosperity for tomorrow.”
The governor confirmed the defection was a “collective move” by Enugu’s entire political family. This group includes his immediate predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, state and federal lawmakers, the executive council, local government chairmen, and over 80% of party executives.
Mbah expressed confidence that the partnership will usher in a new era of development, ensuring the voice of Enugu and the South-East people will now be “heard in Abuja.”
While thanking the PDP, Mbah lamented that the party too often disregarded the voices of the South-East people despite their loyalty. He remains optimistic that this new alliance with the APC promises a brighter future for the state.
