Sanwo Olu commended the recipients for their pursuit of excellence and moral integrity, noting that their achievements reflect the university’s commitment to quality education and ethical values.
“Today, we honour not just individuals but also the spirit of excellence that defines this great institution. Each of you has shown determination and commitment to success that deserve celebration,” he said.
“Keep pushing forward, be curious, and never lose sight of your dreams. May this recognition inspire your passion and drive you to greater heights.”
The event, themed “Impactful Leaders, Making Waves in the Distressed Global Economy,” brought together dignitaries, scholars, and professionals from Nigeria and abroad.
Delivering the keynote address, titled “Reshaping the Nation Under Economic Hardship,” the Vice Chancellor of Highstone Global University, Prof. Ayeni Edward Sunday, called on the Federal Government to enforce capital punishment for individuals or groups who wage war against the nation or finance terrorism.
He stressed that peace and unity cannot thrive without justice and accountability.
“Those who conspire with terrorists or sponsor violence must face capital punishment, no matter how highly placed,” he said.
Prof. Ayeni argued that addressing insecurity should focus on uncovering and prosecuting the financiers of violence rather than relying solely on military force.
He also identified hunger and food scarcity as growing threats to Nigeria’s stability, linking them to poor governance and weak agricultural policies.
“If Nigerians must know peace, food must be accessible and available,” he warned, urging the government to prioritize agricultural investment to ease economic hardship.

On education, the Vice Chancellor described it as the cornerstone of national development and lamented the moral and intellectual decline in Nigeria’s education system.
“A nation that abandons education will suffer setbacks,” he said, calling for comprehensive reforms to ensure quality, equality, and accessibility, especially for children from low income families.
He also advocated the reintroduction of African authored literature into school curricula to rebuild students’ cultural and moral foundations.
Speaking further on the economy, Ayeni criticized Nigeria’s over dependence on crude oil, describing it as a major source of instability, and urged renewed commitment to agricultural growth.
In his remarks, Prof. Theophilus Aku Ugah, Vice Chancellor (America) of Highstone Global University and Professor of Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability, and Renewable Energy, urged global leaders to redefine leadership ethics in an era of crises.
He called on political, religious, and traditional leaders to use their influence for humanity’s collective progress rather than personal gain.
