- 17-Year-Old, Five Others Arrested for Removing Girl’s Eyes in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested six suspects, including a 17-year-old boy, for allegedly plucking out the eyes of a seven-year-old girl in Soro, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the incident occurred on October 17, when the prime suspect, identified as Auwal Dahiru, reportedly attacked his younger sister, Rukayya Muhammad, with the intent to kill her and remove her eyes for ritual purposes.

According to the police, the victim’s father, Muhammad Adamu, a resident of Bayan Dutse Village in Wailo, reported the matter to the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters around 6 p.m.
Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Aliyu Mohammad Goni, swiftly moved to the scene and apprehended the main suspect.
The victim was immediately taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for emergency medical care.
Further investigations led to the arrest of five other alleged accomplices: Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43), all residents of Soro town in Ganjuwa LGA.
Preliminary findings revealed that the seven-year-old victim lost her eyesight permanently after her brother allegedly lured her into a nearby bush, where he brutally removed both of her eyes in a bid to use them for money rituals.

A medical specialist at ATBUTH confirmed that the girl’s eyesight had been completely lost and could not be restored.
According to CSP Wakil, during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their roles in the crime. He added that investigations are still ongoing to uncover the full extent of their involvement and to identify any additional conspirators.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, has reportedly condemned the incident and assured that all those responsible would be brought to justice.
