In a remarkable show of generosity and people-focused leadership, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abidemi Toheeb Yissa-Oyedele (Oyetu I), the Orimedu of Orimedu Kingdom, marked his birthday yesterday with a massive empowerment programme for students, traders, and widows in the community.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the grand event held at the Orimedu Palace grounds, the monarch awarded ₦100,000 bursaries each to 50 indigent students of Orimedu origin studying in tertiary institutions and extended ₦200,000 business grants to 120 small-scale entrepreneurs and widows.
The gesture, widely applauded by dignitaries and residents, reaffirmed the monarch’s commitment to education, economic growth, and community empowerment.

The celebration, attended by the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, His Excellency Alhaji Olabode Kashif Oyedele (Baba Oba of Orimedu), traditional rulers, political leaders, and community stakeholders, was filled with cultural displays, prayers, and tributes to the royal father.
In his goodwill message, Hon. Olowa praised the monarch’s leadership and generosity, describing his reign as one marked by vision and selfless service.
The council boss stated, “Leadership is not a tea party as His Royal Majesty has sacrificed the comfort of leadership for selfless service.”
He added that Kabiyesi’s empowerment schemes and educational sponsorships have lifted many families out of poverty and strengthened the kingdom’s development drive.
Ambassador Ibraheem Ogunbanwo, Treasurer of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, also lauded the monarch’s humanitarian spirit, describing his actions as a model for transformative leadership.

According to him, “This impactful gesture transcends celebration. It reflects a legacy of empowerment, love for humanity, and an unyielding commitment to community growth.”
He further remarked, “Your Majesty’s devotion to education, entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth continues to serve as a shining example of what purposeful leadership should be.”
In his royal address, Oba Yissa-Oyedele expressed gratitude for the love and support shown toward him while reaffirming his dedication to youth and community development.
The monarch said, “Education is the cornerstone of our kingdom’s future. On this special day,
I am reminded of the blessings in my life and the responsibility to extend those blessings to our youth, ensuring they are equipped to lead Orimedu into prosperity.”
The event concluded with a colourful cultural parade, traditional drumming, and a communal feast that fostered unity, joy, and reflection among the people of Orimedu Kingdom.
