EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan clarified that the invitation was officially routed through the Senate President in accordance with parliamentary tradition.
“Today, as is customary for announcements of such nature, I wrote a letter to the Senate through the presiding officer to the Senate President to read on the floor,” she stated.
The lawmaker, who is marking her second year in office, emphasized that the invitation was not a personal celebration but a reflection of her dedication to public service and community development. “I put out the invitation so it wouldn’t seem like I was celebrating in isolation. I’m a progressive person. Even with ongoing court cases, I continue to carry out my duties in the chamber and follow proper procedures,” she said.
She added that the commissioning events would showcase her continuous efforts to improve the welfare of her constituents through quality representation and inclusive governance. “This is not about personal recognition but about celebrating the achievements of public service,” Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed.
Her clarification comes amid renewed attention following her return from suspension by the Senate. The Kogi senator was suspended for six months on March 6, after the adoption of a report by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
Her suspension stemmed from a heated confrontation with Senate President Akpabio over seating arrangements on February 20, which later spiralled into allegations of s3xual harassment claims that Akpabio strongly denied.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was reinstated on September 24 after serving her suspension and has since resumed active participation in legislative activities.
Since her return, she has sponsored several motions and bills, including a proposal for the establishment of a National Centre for Autism and six zonal centres across the country. The bill seeks to promote early diagnosis, research, education, and care for people living with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

Her upcoming project commissioning in Kogi State is expected to draw several dignitaries, including Senate leadership and members of the National Assembly.
