Tensions flared within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday as armed men reportedly invaded the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, leaving several staff members injured and attempting to install a new national chairman.
Eko Hot Blog reports that, in response, PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, accusing suspended National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and his loyalists of orchestrating the attack with alleged support from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Commissioner of Police.

In the petition titled “Invasion of the National Secretariat of the PDP and Assault on Staff by Thugs Mobilized by Suspended Officers,” Damagum explained that the assault followed the suspension of Anyanwu and other key officers by the National Working Committee (NWC) for alleged anti-party activities.

According to him, on November 3, 2025, thugs allegedly mobilized by Anyanwu and his aides stormed the secretariat armed with guns, machetes, and tear gas.
The group reportedly attacked staff, assaulted journalists, and forcefully entered offices, including the chairman’s. A female staff member fainted during the chaos but was later revived, while three others sustained injuries.
Damagum further claimed that the attackers sought to impose Mohammed Abdulrahman, the PDP National Vice Chairman (North Central), as acting chairman. He alleged that police officers accompanied the thugs and used tear gas on party staff, heightening suspicion of official complicity.

He called on the Inspector General to investigate the FCT Police Commissioner, Senator Anyanwu, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the FCT Minister, stressing that the incident posed a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy and international image.
“The invasion of a political party’s headquarters by armed men, allegedly aided by state actors, cannot be overlooked,” Damagum warned, urging the police to act swiftly and transparently.
