The Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Abiola Olowu, in collaboration with the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa — represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Issa Maruf Olayinka — has carried out an on-site inspection of dredging sites across Ibeju-Lekki to ensure strict adherence to environmental standards and safety regulations.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the inspection, which was captured in high-definition video, reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to maintaining an eco-friendly environment while regulating industrial activities within the fast-developing corridor.
During the visit, Engr. Olowu interacted directly with dredgers and operators at various sites, emphasizing the need for compliance with environmental policies and proper road maintenance before the continuation of dredging operations.
He noted that several dredging sites would be sealed until operators fulfill the necessary environmental and infrastructural requirements.
“We cannot continue to compromise the safety of our environment in the name of economic activity,” Engr. Olowu stated. “All dredgers must comply with state regulations and ensure that the access roads leading to their sites are properly maintained to prevent damage to public infrastructure.”

Representing the council chairman, Mr. Olayinka reaffirmed the local government’s support for the state’s enforcement drive, noting that Ibeju-Lekki’s development must go hand in hand with environmental protection.
“Our administration under Hon. Abdullahi Olowa is committed to sustainable growth,” he said. “We will continue to collaborate with the state government to ensure that every business activity aligns with the laws guiding environmental preservation.”
The inspection exercise forms part of the broader Lagos State initiative to regulate dredging, prevent land degradation, and promote responsible resource management in coastal communities.
