Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a man, Victor Dickson, to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his neighbour’s six-month-old baby.
Eko Hot Blog reports that while delivering judgment, the court held that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, relying on strong circumstantial evidence that clearly pointed to the convict’s guilt.

The judge noted inconsistencies in Dickson’s statements, explaining that his testimony in court contradicted what he initially told the police. This, he said, weakened his defence and affected his credibility.
According to the court, the victim’s mother testified that the convict took the baby while she was briefly occupied, carried the child into his room, and committed the offence. The judge described the victim as extremely vulnerable and condemned the betrayal of trust involved in the act.

Justice Oshodi also observed that the convict showed no remorse and instead attempted to shift blame with claims the court found unconvincing.
In his ruling, the judge stressed the need to protect society and deter similar crimes, describing the offence as deeply disturbing. He subsequently sentenced Dickson to life imprisonment in a maximum-security custodial facility.
The court further ordered that the convict be registered as a sex offender in line with Lagos State laws.
The case, which began in 2022, involved testimonies from the child’s parents and a police investigator, leading to the final conviction.
