- men “don’t need marriage for anything,”
A fresh controversy has erupted online following remarks by social media personality Gehgeh on the latest episode of The Honest Bunch podcast.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Gehgeh stirred outrage after declaring that African men should never kneel to propose to women, insisting that the act was “un-African” and that men were “doing women a favour” by marrying them.

The statement drew immediate criticism from the hosts, who reminded him that women also make major sacrifices in marriage from raising children to managing homes, but Gehgeh stood his ground.
According to him, men “don’t need marriage for anything,” adding that he personally does not need a woman “for anything” except to have children, which he claimed could happen without marriage or a formal proposal.

His comments have since sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms.
While many Nigerians condemned the statement as offensive and outdated, others defended him, saying he was simply expressing a cultural belief that aligns with traditional African values.
The viral debate has reignited conversations about gender roles, African traditions, and the influence of Western culture on modern relationships.
