Tragedy struck at the Rann Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kala-Balge Local Government Area of Borno State after a 19-year-old forest guard ranger reportedly shot and killed a displaced person.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, throwing the camp community into mourning.

According to counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama, the victim, identified as 25-year-old Abba Kime Jugudum, was allegedly gunned down by the guard, Mohammed Abbalayi, who fired an AK-47 rifle at him.
Makama stated that troops of Operation HADIN KAI swiftly responded to the scene, secured the area, and recovered the rifle used in the incident along with 25 rounds of live ammunition.

He added that Jugudum’s body was taken to a government hospital in Rann, where a medical officer confirmed him dead before the remains were released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.
Sources quoted by Makama disclosed that the suspect has been discreetly moved to Maiduguri for further investigation by security authorities.
Kala-Balge, a border community between Nigeria and Cameroon, hosts thousands of internally displaced persons affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the region.
