EKO HOT BLOG reports that the display is part of the commission’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election and is intended to give members of the public access to information submitted by political parties on behalf of their candidates.
The candidates’ details, contained in Form EC9, have been displayed at INEC offices across the country for public inspection.
INEC said the exercise was conducted in compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The provision requires the electoral body to publish the personal particulars, affidavits and credentials submitted by candidates within 21 days of receiving nominations from their respective political parties.
According to the commission, the publication is aimed at promoting transparency in the electoral process and allowing Nigerians to scrutinise the educational qualifications and other information provided by candidates seeking elective office.
The documents are available for inspection at INEC offices nationwide, including its state and local government offices.
The exercise gives interested members of the public an opportunity to examine the information submitted by the 19 presidential candidates and their running mates ahead of the election.
It also provides an avenue for individuals who believe that a candidate submitted false information or forged documents to take appropriate legal action in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
The public display of the candidates’ particulars is part of the electoral process designed to ensure that information submitted by political parties and their candidates is open to scrutiny before the 2027 general elections.
