A Federal High Court in Abuja has once again stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned national convention, insisting the party must first comply with its constitution and internal procedures.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Justice Peter Odo Lifu issued a fresh order on Friday halting the 2025 convention earlier scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The court ruled that the exercise must remain suspended until former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, is granted access to obtain the nomination form for the party’s national chairmanship contest. Justice Lifu also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring, supervising, or providing any form of support for the convention until Lamido is cleared to participate.
The judge stressed that the PDP is obligated to uphold its own constitution by ensuring equal opportunity for all eligible members seeking party positions. He added that the party acted improperly by denying Lamido the chance to purchase the nomination form.

Lamido, through his counsel, Jeph Njikonye (SAN), had filed a suit seeking an interim order stopping the PDP from going ahead with the convention pending the determination of his motion. He maintained that he was unjustly prevented from securing the chairmanship form.
The court held that its decision became necessary due to the PDP’s failure to meet key legal requirements for convening the convention, including the mandatory publication of notice to members and the issuance of a 21-day notice ahead of the exercise.
