EKO HOT BLOG reports that party insiders told Sunday Punch that the hesitation by Atiku, Obi, and other political heavyweights has slowed the party’s momentum, leaving its direction unclear ahead of the 2027 general elections. The situation, sources added, is worsened by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s delay in recognising Senator David Mark’s leadership and ongoing litigations.
On March 20, opposition leaders adopted the ADC as their platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu, naming Mark interim National Chairman and former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola National Secretary. Weeks later, Atiku, Obi, former Governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, and others declared support for the coalition. However, neither Atiku nor Obi has completed registration with the ADC, a development party officials say is discouraging wider membership and resources.
A coalition source said, “If these figures had joined, momentum would already be building ahead of 2027. Their absence is slowing the process, even though David Mark is working to strengthen the party.”
Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, insisted the former Vice President remains committed to the coalition, explaining that membership registration is a process already underway.
ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi also dismissed concerns, stressing that both Atiku and Obi are fully with the coalition and that the party remains focused on building structures nationwide.

He added that the party had completed its documentation with INEC and is managing available resources to remain a strong opposition force.
