Security agencies in India have made a major breakthrough in their investigation into last week’s deadly car explosion in New Delhi, which killed 12 people and injured 32 near the historic Red Fort.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the National Investigation Agency on Sunday arrested a Kashmiri resident, Amir Rashid Ali, identifying him as an accomplice of the suspected suicide bomber behind the attack.

Investigators say the vehicle used in the blast was registered in Ali’s name, and he was tracked down in Delhi after an extensive search operation.

Authorities allege that Ali, who hails from Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir, worked closely with the bomber, Umar Un Nabi, and travelled to the capital to help secure the car later filled with explosives.
Officials also confirmed that another vehicle owned by Nabi had been seized for forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
The federal government condemned the attack as a “heinous terror act” carried out by anti-national forces, though it refrained from naming Pakistan, a move seen as part of its cautious diplomatic approach.

In a separate development, nine people were killed and nearly 30 were injured on Friday night when confiscated explosives accidentally detonated inside a police station in Srinagar. Authorities insisted the blast had no link to militant activity.
Security agencies have since launched coordinated raids across northern India, recovering a “massive cache” of arms, ammunition, and bomb-making material,s including chemicals, electronic circuits and remote controls.
