Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted a bride to be and her bridesmaids only a few hours before her wedding ceremony in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the attack took place around 1.30 in the morning when the armed men invaded Chacho village and took away the bride to be, her close friends and eight other residents. All those abducted were women except for one man. One person was also injured during the attack.
A resident who spoke anonymously described the incident as heartbreaking.
“The wedding was supposed to hold this morning. Instead of preparing for the ceremony, the family is now in anguish. The bride to be was taken along with her friends who were meant to serve as her bridesmaids,” he said.
He added that seven other women and one man were also kidnapped during the attack.
The victim who sustained injuries was rushed to the hospital and is receiving treatment.
The resident expressed concern over the slow security response, noting that operatives were alerted immediately but only arrived around 2.30 in the morning, long after the gunmen had fled.
“We are begging the government to fulfil its duty of protecting lives and property. People are living in fear and we cannot continue like this,” he added.
The spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the incident and said more information would be provided as details become clearer.
