The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has expressed profound condolences following a fatal road traffic incident along the Trade Fair inward Abule-Ado service lane, which resulted in the death of a Federal Fire Service officer stationed at the Trade Fair Complex.
According to preliminary findings,Eko Hot Blog gathered that the tragedy occurred when a commercial motorcyclist—riding against traffic at high speed collided with the firefighter as he attempted to cross the expressway. Amid the chaos that followed, an oncoming Shacman truck (registration number JJJ 919 YK) loaded with sand was unable to brake in time, leading to the fatal impact.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA confirmed that its personnel responded swiftly, securing the scene to ensure order and protect other road users. With support from passersby, they cordoned off the area and alerted the Onireke Police Division, which arrived promptly to commence investigations and reinforce security.
The motorcyclist reportedly fled with his motorcycle before authorities could apprehend him, while the truck driver abandoned his vehicle and escaped after realising the severity of the situation.

Colleagues of the deceased firefighter later evacuated his remains using an official Federal Fire Service ambulance deployed from the Trade Fair Complex. After appropriate scene management, LASTMA officials handed over the impounded truck to the police for further investigation and necessary legal action.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, praying for comfort during this difficult period and assuring them of the agency’s support.
Bakare-Oki also condemned the recurring menace of one-way driving in Lagos, issuing a stern warning to motorists and commercial motorcyclists. He emphasised that such reckless behaviour continues to lead to avoidable tragedies and needless grief.
He urged all road users to obey traffic rules and maintain approved speed limits, stressing that doing so is a civic responsibility essential for safeguarding lives.
LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing traffic laws, promoting safety, and fostering a more disciplined motoring culture across Lagos State.
