The distressed officer can be heard pleading for help while several onlookers record the incident on their mobile phones.
Background voices repeatedly accuse him of stealing, although the exact nature of the alleged offence remained unclear at press time.
Another police officer is seen in the footage attempting to push through the crowd to rescue the victim, but members of the mob continue to shout “Ole!”the Yoruba word for “thief.”

The incident appears to have taken place in a busy commercial area, with buses and tricycles slowly navigating around the gathering, including a yellow bus bearing the inscription “Ayedade.”
Reacting to the viral footage, Lagos Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that an investigation had commenced to determine what transpired and to verify the identity of the officer involved.
“The command has seen the viral video. We are investigating to determine the full circumstances and confirm the identity of the officer. Updates will follow soon,” Adebisi wrote on X.
The Nigeria Police Force has repeatedly warned against mob justice, insisting that all allegations whether against civilians or security personnel must be handled through lawful procedures.
