Nigeria’s academic community has been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned scholar and education pioneer, Prof. Adamu Baikie, who passed away at the age of 94.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the elder statesman died on Friday evening at his residence in Zaria, Kaduna State, marking the end of an era in Northern Nigeria’s educational development.

Prof. Baikie was widely celebrated as the first Professor of Education in Northern Nigeria and was known for his far-reaching contributions as an academic, educationist and university administrator.

Over the course of his career, he served as Vice-Chancellor in several Nigerian institutions and also held leadership roles in foreign universities.
The passing of the scholar was confirmed by his eldest son, Major Muhammad Adamu (rtd), who disclosed that the family received condolences from colleagues, former students, and associates across the country.
According to the family, the late professor is survived by five children. Details of funeral prayers and burial arrangements, they added, will be announced at a later date.
