In a statement issued after reviewing the panel’s report, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, announced that the surgeon who led the operation has been relieved of his appointment with immediate effect.

Other members of the surgical team who were present in the operating theatre on the day of the procedure have also been placed on a one-month suspension, pending further administrative processes.
The state government further approved financial support for Afolayan to undergo a fresh kidney transplant and committed to covering his post-transplant treatment and medical upkeep for a period of two years.

Authorities also ordered a sweeping overhaul of relevant departments within the teaching hospital to reinforce patient safety, accountability, and professional oversight.
While reiterating confidence in the majority of health workers at EKSUTH, the government assured residents that firm measures would continue to be applied against any conduct that violates medical ethics.
