Eleven Nigerian soldiers released by Burkina Faso have safely arrived at an Air Force base in Accra, Ghana, following their detention earlier this month.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the military personnel were detained after their Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft made an unscheduled landing in Bobo-Dioulasso on December 8 due to a technical issue shortly after departing Lagos en route to Portugal.
Announcing the safe arrival, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, shared on his 𝕏 handle: “I can confirm that the pilots and crew of NAF C-130 (913) have safely arrived at the Air Force Base in Accra. The successful outcome reflects Nigeria’s commitment to diplomacy, regional cooperation, and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in resolving sensitive matters through dialogue.”
The Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, confirmed that Burkina Faso authorities released both the 11 Nigerian soldiers and their aircraft after 10 days in detention.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, also confirmed the development to The PUNCH on Wednesday night, saying, “They have been released. I just confirmed with our Head of Mission in Burkina Faso.”

The release marks the successful resolution of a tense situation, highlighting Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to maintain regional cooperation and ensure the safety of its personnel abroad.
