Tinubu said the late Sheikh was not only a religious leader but a moral compass whose teachings transcended borders and generations, stressing that his legacy of integrity, scholarship and peaceful coexistence deserved national recognition.
According to the President, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi dedicated his life to spreading knowledge, honesty and upright character, adding that Nigeria had lost a conscience that consistently stood for truth and righteousness.
“He was kind to his family, direct and indirect, and he loved this country deeply. He worked tirelessly on the path of Almighty Allah, preaching knowledge, honesty and good character,” Tinubu said.
The President urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the life of the late cleric by promoting peace, unity and stability, noting that national development could only thrive in an atmosphere of harmony and shared values.

“As believers, we come from Almighty Allah and we shall return to Him. The best honour we can give him is to live by the values he left behind and continue to pray for peace, prosperity and development in our country,” he added.
Tinubu formally announced the change of name, stating that the institution would henceforth be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University, describing the move as a lasting tribute to the scholar’s contributions to faith, education and national unity.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, commended the President for personally identifying with the family of the late Sheikh and the people of the state, describing the visit and the renaming of the university as a profound mark of respect.
Earlier, a representative of the family, Dr Bashir Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, expressed gratitude to the President for sending a high-powered delegation to the funeral and for personally visiting Bauchi to commiserate with them.
Members of the presidential delegation included governors from Yobe and Plateau states, as well as representatives of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
