EKO HOT BLOG reports that Idris disclosed this on Monday during an end of year media briefing in Abuja, explaining that the diplomatic appointments are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s bilateral relations and repositioning the country on the global stage.
“In 2026, again, our newly appointed ambassadors will take up their posts in their countries of assignment. Of course, their clearance and confirmation have just been made by the National Assembly,” the minister said.
He noted that the appointments responded to persistent calls for Nigeria to fill long vacant ambassadorial positions across several countries.
“Before this time, we have had cries, complaints and agitations for ambassadors to be put on their posts. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled that,” Idris added.
The minister explained that while parts of the deployment process have already been concluded, outstanding formalities will be completed in the coming year.
“For the remaining part, that will be carried out in 2026,” he stated.
Idris further said the diplomatic postings would deepen Nigeria’s international engagement across multiple sectors and promote the country’s national interests abroad.
His remarks followed the recent confirmation of 67 ambassadorial nominees by the Senate after a screening exercise conducted by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Those confirmed include former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode; ex aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri; former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau; and former presidential aide, Ita Enang.

Others are former senator, Grace Bent; former INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu; former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; and former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu.
The confirmed list comprises 34 career diplomats and 30 non career ambassadors.
