The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delivered the long-sought aspirations of Ndigbo through what he described as full inclusion of the South East in national governance.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a New Year message on Wednesday, the former Ebonyi State governor said the current administration had ended what he termed the most difficult period in Nigeria’s nationhood through robust economic reforms, adding that 2026 would usher in significant improvements across all sectors.

Umahi urged people of the South East to remain steadfast in their support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, describing the president as compensation for decades of neglect and marginalisation of the region.
He expressed confidence that voters in the South East would correct what he called the mistake of the 2023 elections by casting overwhelming support for Tinubu, whom he said had addressed the “criminal marginalisation” of the region by successive governments.
“Our people will never make the mistake of 2023,” Umahi said. “We shall remain resolute and stand strongly together behind Mr President in the 2027 election. Ndigbo will not be deceived again by politicians with sugar-coated mouths.”
He dismissed emerging political ambitions from the region, insisting that Tinubu would be on the ballot in 2027 and would enjoy the full backing of South East governors and political leaders.

“Once he is on the ballot, all the governors of the South East are on the ballot, and I, the Minister of Works, am also on the ballot,” Umahi said. “It is our collective interest to support a president who has reopened our chapter and is massively investing in our future. Indeed, the Biafra is here.”
The minister called for social re-engineering and deradicalisation, arguing that the Biafra many Igbo people had struggled for had now been achieved through national integration and equal participation in Nigeria’s development.
Umahi also assured Nigerians that federal road projects across all regions were receiving adequate funding and supervision, promising timely completion in line with required standards.
He announced plans to establish a special task force to enforce a ban on trucks parking along federal highways, adding that the Ministry of Works would work with security agencies to ensure safer travel for motorists, particularly during the post-festive period.
