According to eyewitness accounts, the 18-seater Mazda bus, travelling from Lagos, rammed underneath a Volvo truck coming from Ibadan while the truck was attempting a U-turn near the NASFAT area.
The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta, stating that 8 persons were involved in the crash.
Odunsi-Oyewole attributed the accident to overspending, noting that FRSC personnel from the Mowe Unit, Ibafo Outpost, an ambulance team from Ojota Unit Command, officers from the MTD RCCG Police Division, and TRACE Mowe Division were promptly deployed to the scene.
“An auto crash occurred at about 14:36hrs today, January 1, 2026, and the FRSC rescue team was alerted at about 14:40hrs. Our personnel arrived at the scene around 14:50hrs along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at NASFAT Junction,” he said.

“The crash involved 2 vehicles, a Mazda commercial bus and a Volvo truck. 8 people were involved, 6 were killed, while 2 sustained injuries. The cause of the crash was overspeeding.”
He added that before the arrival of rescue teams, good Samaritans had taken some injured victims to unknown hospitals, while others were rushed to Famobis Hospital, Lotto, for urgent medical attention.
The remains of the deceased victims were deposited at the morgue, while traffic was temporarily disrupted during rescue and evacuation operations.
Meanwhile, the FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun State, Corps Commander Akinwumi Fasakin, has ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The incident comes barely 4 days after Nigerian-British boxing star, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a separate road accident that left him injured and claimed the lives of 2 of his associates.
The FRSC had attributed that crash to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking by the driver.
