The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a purported timetable currently circulating online, allegedly released for the 2027 general elections, describing it as false and misleading.
Eko Hot Blog reports that INEC made this clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola.

The commission stressed that it has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, INEC operates strictly within the provisions of the law and cannot issue any election timetable outside the statutory framework.
The commission cited Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which stipulates that a notice of election shall be published not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.
“Any timetable or schedule of activities issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from INEC,” the statement read.

INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections would be released in due course and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.
The commission added that when the timetable is released, it will be communicated through its established and verified channels.
INEC therefore urged members of the public and the media to disregard the fake timetable and rely solely on information from the commission’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates.
