EKO HOT BLOG reports that the palace, located in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jama’a LGA, is a prominent traditional institution in the area and holds significant cultural importance.
As of the time of filing this report, firefighters from the Kaduna State Fire Service were still battling the blaze to prevent it from spreading to other sections of the historic structure.
Witnesses said the fire was first noticed in one wing of the palace before it intensified.
“We suddenly saw smoke coming out from one part of the palace. Before we knew what was happening, the fire had intensified,” a resident who declined to be named said.
Officials of the Kaduna State Fire Service reportedly arrived shortly after receiving distress calls and immediately commenced firefighting operations.
The thick smoke from the palace premises attracted large crowds from neighbouring communities, with many expressing concern over potential damage to the revered building.
Security personnel were deployed to the scene to control the crowd and ensure that emergency responders had unhindered access to the affected areas. Access to some sections of the palace was restricted as firefighters worked to contain the flames.
Local volunteers were also seen assisting security agents and emergency officials.
The cause of the fire had yet to be determined as of press time. Authorities had not released an official statement on the extent of damage or possible losses.
