Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, have lost one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi, following a brief illness.
The tragic development was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement issued by Adichie’s Communications Team and signed by Omawumi Ogbe.

Eko Hot Blog gathered that the child passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the age of 21 months.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr Ivara Esege’s twin boys, Nkanu Nnamdi, who died after a brief illness,” the statement read.

It added that the family is devastated by the loss and appealed to the public for understanding and privacy during the period of mourning. “We request that their privacy be respected during this incredibly difficult time and ask for grace and prayers as they grieve in private,” the statement said.
The Communications Team further noted that no additional statements would be issued, thanking members of the public and the media for respecting the family’s wish for seclusion as they navigate their grief.
