- Awujale Stool: Fusengbuwa Family Dismisses KWAM1’s Petition as ‘Arrant Nonsense’
- The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025 following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona
- Says the ruling house had fixed Monday for the nomination of aspirants seeking to contest for the vacant Awujale stool
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu land has fired back at popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, over his petition to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, alleging that he is being deliberately excluded from the process to select the next Awujale of Ijebu land.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a letter dated January 8, 2026, written by his lawyer, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), KWAM1 accused the Fusengbuwa Ruling House next in line to produce the Awujale of issuing guidelines that allegedly contravene the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State.

He claimed the directives were deliberately designed to shut him out of the race for the revered stool.
However, reacting to the claims, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, dismissed the allegations as baseless, describing the petition as “arrant nonsense” with no impact on the ongoing selection process.
Speaking on the telephone on Sunday, Yusuf said the protest letter was misguided, insisting that either KWAM1 or his lawyer was being misinformed. He explained that the ruling house has a large membership, making it impractical to allow all members to directly participate in the screening process.
“We have over 20,000 members in the ruling house. How does he expect us to manage such a crowd? The issue being raised about screening is illogical,” Yusuf said, adding that the letter was addressed to the state government, which would respond in due course.
He further confirmed that the ruling house had fixed Monday for the nomination of aspirants seeking to contest for the vacant Awujale stool.
The process to select a new Awujale has reportedly attracted more than 60 aspirants, with KWAM1 openly declaring his interest. However, the Fusengbuwa family has maintained that the Fuji musician is not a member of the ruling house and is therefore not eligible to participate.

KWAM1 had earlier approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode, seeking an interim injunction to halt the selection process. The court dismissed the application for lacking merit, after which the suit was withdrawn by his lawyer without explanation.
Following intervention by the state government, the ruling house suspended the initial nomination process and later restarted it.
In his fresh petition to Governor Abiodun, KWAM1 stated that the Ijebu-Ode Local Government had, through a letter dated January 6, 2026, approved the commencement of the selection process.
He expressed surprise that despite preparations for a general family meeting, the ruling house’s Public Relations Officer, Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, issued a directive instructing aspirants to collect nomination forms and appear before a screening committee chaired by Prince Alhaji Mitiu Adenuga.
According to KWAM1, the directive fixed the nomination exercise for Monday, January 12, 2026, while also stating that nominations would be carried out by delegates selected at a meeting scheduled for January 10, 2026.
His lawyer argued that the directives violated established laws governing chieftaincy matters in Ogun State and amounted to an attempt to disenfranchise eligible members of the ruling house, including his client.
“All members of the ruling house are entitled to attend the meeting and freely nominate candidates of their choice,” the letter stated, warning that any attempt to hijack or manipulate the process could lead to a crisis.
The petition urged the governor to intervene to protect due process and ensure fairness, stressing that any attempt to exclude KWAM1 would be resisted.
The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025 following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who passed away at the age of 91 after reigning for 65 years.
Efforts to get a response from the Ogun State Government were unsuccessful, as the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, had not responded to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.
