This intervention, which was announced on Thursday in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso, is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to providing financial relief and stability to the families of its fallen heroes.
During the cheque presentation ceremony held at the State Command, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Ibrahim Sumaila, represented CP Abdulmajid.
Delivering a message on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, DCP Sumaila emphasized that the welfare of officers and their dependents remains a top priority for the current police leadership.
He noted that the Group Life Insurance Scheme stands as a testament to the IGP’s compassion and accountability in honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for national peace and security.
DCP Sumaila urged the beneficiaries to be prudent and judicious in their use of the funds.

He specifically highlighted that the disbursement is intended to provide critical support for the education of the deceased officers’ children, healthcare for their families, and general well-being.
By ensuring these funds reach the rightful families, the Force aims to provide a vital mechanism for financial stability during difficult times of transition.
The Deputy Commissioner described the scheme as an essential part of the police reward system, designed to boost the morale of serving personnel by showing that their families will not be abandoned.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Modu Ishaku, spoke on behalf of the grieving families during the event.
He expressed profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Borno State Command for the timely gesture, assuring the authorities that the funds would be utilized responsibly to sustain the households left behind.
The atmosphere at the ceremony reflected a mix of somber remembrance and relief, as the families of the nine officers were officially recognized for the service and bravery of their loved ones in the volatile North-East region.
This latest payout is part of a consistent effort by the Borno Command, following a similar exercise in January 2026 where approximately ₦18.38 million was disbursed to another set of nine families.

The Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance Scheme continues to serve as a national pillar of support, reinforcing the institutional commitment to officers even after their service ends in tragedy.
Through these regular disbursements, the Force continues to demonstrate that the security of the nation is built on the sacrifices of individuals whose legacies deserve both honor and practical financial protection.
