Transfer: Odion Ighalo Breaks History After Joining Man United
Former Nigeria international Odion Ighalo has joined English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester United from Shanghai Shenhua on loan until the end of the season.
Concise News understands that the Red Devils do not have the option to buy the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations highest goalscorer at the end of the term.
Ighalo, who is making a return to the Premier League, becomes the first Nigerian to team up with the most successful EPL club.
The 30-year-old former player of Watford, for which he scored 16 Premier League goals between 2015 and 2017, emerged as a late target for both United and Tottenham.
But United pushed through a late-minute deal, despite issues with the time difference and the ongoing travel situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak in China.
It was learned that there was interest from other clubs in the Premier League but Ighalo wanted to play for United.
Ighalo, who netted five goals to emerge AFCON 2019 highest goalscorer, and retired from international football afterwards, is expected to fly to Manchester in the next few days to complete the move.
He joined China’s Changchun Yatai in 2017, scoring 36 goals in 55 league games before becoming a player of Shanghai Shenhua.
Man United, had on Thursday, announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon on a five-and-a-half years deal.
Fernandes, 25, has netted 63 goals in 137 appearances for Sporting.
