With the transfer of power completed, he has now assumed full responsibilities as the country’s president.

Amedi becomes the sixth individual to hold the office since the fall of the Baath regime.
Born in Duhok, Amedi studied engineering at Mosul University and later lived and worked in cities including Sulaymaniyah and Baghdad. Over the years, he has built a lengthy career in public service, spanning about three decades.
His previous roles include serving as Iraq’s Minister of Environment from 2022 to 2024. He also worked as an advisor to former presidents Jalal Talabani, Fuad Masum, and Barham Salih.

In the presidential election, which featured 18 candidates, 252 out of 329 lawmakers participated.
Amedi secured 208 votes in the first round and maintained a leading position in the second round, ultimately clinching the presidency.
