- Nafiu Bala, the acclaimed acting National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claims he was “tricked” into attending the 2025 ceremony where David Mark was installed as interim chairman.
- Bala revealed that the electoral body, INEC, informed him he had supposedly resigned his position as Deputy National Chairman, a move he labels as part of a wider conspiracy.
- The ADC is currently fractured into three rival camps loyal to David Mark, Nafiu Bala (Gombe), and Dumebi Kachikwu, with each accusing the others of illegality and hijacking party structures.
The internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a dramatic turn as Nafiu Bala, a key claimant to the party’s leadership, alleged that his presence at the transition ceremony of former Senate President David Mark was secured through deceit.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in an interview on Monday, April 20, 2026, Bala asserted that the party’s former chairman, Ralph Nwosu, invited him to the July 2025 event under the guise of adopting new members into a coalition.

Instead, he found himself witnessing Nwosu’s sudden resignation and the immediate installation of David Mark as interim National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as Secretary.
Bala explained that his delay in challenging the move was due to extensive nationwide consultations with other National Working Committee (NWC) members.
However, upon writing to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to assert his position as the authentic acting chairman, he was shocked to find that the commission already had a record of his resignation.

“I never consented to it,” Bala maintained, describing the situation as a coordinated attempt to sideline the original party leadership. The Mark-led faction has yet to respond to these specific allegations.
The ADC is currently embroiled in a multi-faceted legal battle. While INEC has derecognised the Mark-led executive following a court ruling, the faction has accused the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of fueling the crisis to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Both the APC and the Presidency have dismissed these claims as baseless.
