- protesters argued that party members should be allowed to decide the candidate through a transparent voting process
Supporters of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday staged a protest at the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Oyo State over the process for selecting the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the protest followed the formal endorsement of Sharafadeen Alli by APC leaders and stakeholders as the party’s consensus governorship candidate before the primary election.

The endorsement was reaffirmed during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Wednesday at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall of the University College Hospital in Ibadan.

Despite the decision, Adelabu’s supporters gathered at the party secretariat to demand that the APC adopt direct primaries instead of a consensus arrangement for the governorship ticket.
The protesters argued that party members should be allowed to decide the candidate through a transparent voting process.
Adelabu recently resigned from his position as Minister of Power to focus on his ambition of contesting the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria officially declared his governorship ambition on May 12, 2026, promising to introduce policies and projects aimed at improving the welfare of residents in the state.

He made the declaration during an event held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Oke Ado, Ibadan.
Several APC leaders and members attended the gathering, including Kunle Sanda, Isiaka Alimi and Wale Sanusi.
Addressing supporters at the event, Adelabu said his decision to join the race was motivated by his desire to deliver greater democratic dividends and accelerate development across Oyo State.
