EKO HOT BLOG reports that Cole announced his decision in a statement issued on Wednesday, stating that his withdrawal was driven by the need to promote peace, reconciliation and unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and his supporters across the state.
The former governorship candidate described himself as a committed democrat who believes strongly in party supremacy and institutional stability.
Cole said he decided to step down in the collective interest of the party and pledged full support to whoever eventually emerges as the APC governorship candidate.
“I have taken the decision, in the overriding interest of party unity, peace, and collective progress, to respect the supremacy of the party and withdraw from the forthcoming primaries.
“This decision was not made lightly. It is the product of deep reflection, patriotism, and an unwavering commitment to the stability, growth, and success of our great party and our beloved state,” he stated.
The APC chieftain also expressed appreciation to his supporters, including party loyalists, women groups, youths, elders and other Rivers residents who stood by him throughout the political process.
He urged his supporters to remain peaceful and continue cooperating with the leadership of the party ahead of the elections.

“Let us unite and work together to secure victory for our President, our party, and all APC candidates in the 2027 General Elections,” Cole added.
