President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who died while being held by terrorists in Katsina State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the retired military officer’s death was confirmed by the Katsina State Government on Saturday. Authorities said he passed away in captivity due to health complications linked to diabetes and hypertension.

Reacting to the development through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the incident as shocking and painful.

The President noted that General Abubakar, who had served the nation in the military before retiring, was travelling to his hometown when he was abducted by armed criminals.
Tinubu extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, particularly his wife, who remains in the custody of the kidnappers. He also sympathised with the Katsina State Government and members of the Armed Forces over the loss.
The President reiterated his administration’s resolve not to yield to demands from terrorist groups, insisting that the government would not release detained criminals in exchange for hostages.

He maintained that security forces would continue their operations against bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements threatening the country’s peace and stability.
According to Tinubu, Nigerians must remain united in the fight against insecurity, expressing confidence that the country would eventually overcome terrorism and violent crimes.
He added that the late general’s death should strengthen the nation’s determination to confront insurgents and terrorists without compromise, describing them as enemies of the state who must face the full weight of the law.
